La Comedie -Francaise
The world’s most longstanding French theater, the sacred shrine of classical French drama, the Comédie-Française on its first trip to Taiwan presents Le Malade Imaginaire , the classic final work of Comédie founder Molière, depicting an over-energetic “patient” and the absurdity of his tragic-comical life encounters. A true master of comedy in the seventeenth century, “the French Shakespeare” Molière wrote over 30 plays and portrayed more than 20 significant characters in his life, exposing the dark side of society in the shape of farce. His comedies, humorous amidst their solemnity with plots of great philosophy, were “nearly tragic, and so cleverly written no one dares imitate him”, according to Goethe.
